The Mk1 and Mk2 use a different way of mounting the seats. The MK1 like the Golf 4 (hence MK4 R32 seats fitting) dont have runners as such, they are built into the floorpan. The MK2 has regular flat runners that bolt to the floor. You could fit MK2 front seats into a MK1 but it would require some custom fabrication.
